Question and Answers

Q:

How do I replace igniter wires?

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I added the instructions in the images below. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source and turn the gas supply off too before servicing.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Essam: The parts image does not show the spark electrode wires or part number. You will need to call Sears Parts Direct at 1-800-366-7278 and have them research the part number of the wires.

Essam: If the electrode is not installed in the proper postition so that the electrical charge can jump spark between the electrode and the grounded burner base, the electrical charge will jump through the wire insulation looking for the nearest good ground. Make sure the burner base is well grounded to the cook top or it will jump spark between the wire and ground.

Essam: The burner base must be making a good contact with the main top. If the burner base is not making a good connection to ground, the spark will not jump between the electrode and base. Check and make sure the cook top is properly grounded.

Essam: If you have an appliance parts distributor nearby, I would go and asked them to see some igniter wires from other gas model cooktops. I'm sure you can likely find one.
