Question and Answers

Q:

I have a Kenmore Washer. Model 22912. The tub won't drain. All the other cyles work but won't drain or spin. I suspect either the pump or lid switch.

Q:

Why won't my washing machine rinse or spin?

A:

Your likely failure based on these symptoms is a failed lid switch. This will prevent the washer draining and spinning. You can verify that this is the failure by unplugging the washer and accessing the lid switch as shown in the image below. NOTE: Your model of washer will be slightly different than the one shown in the first image below. You will need to remove the plastic end cap as shown in the second image to reveal the screw on each side that secures the console to the top panel. The wire colors going to the harness of your lid switch will likely be tan and gray. If you can use an insulated jumper wire as shown in the first image to bypass the lid switch, you can test the washer to see if it will drain and spin. If it does then the lid switch will need to be replaced. NOTE: I do not recommend that you continue to run the washer beyond this temporary test with the lid switch bypassed. This essential safely component should be replaced before using the washer. The part number for the lid switch is 3949238. You can order it from the Sears PartsDirect website.

If your washer still will not drain and spin with the lid switch bypassed then you could have a timer problem, a wiring failure or a motor problem.
