Question and Answers

Q:

What has failed on my Whirlpool dishwasher to prevent the water heat LED and element from coming on?

A:

If the water heating LED does not light up the failure could be a burned out LED or a failed control board. You can put the dishwasher into a diagnostic test which should cause the water heating light to illuminate.

See image below for instructions.

The failure preventing the heating element from getting hot could be one of several possible failures.

  • Control board (voltage output)
  • High limit thermostat (continuity)
  • Heating element (10-35 ohms)
  • Neutral door switch. (continuity)

I recommend using a volt/ohm meter to test the resistance of the above mentioned parts with the exception of the control board. The output voltage to the heater would have to be checked at the Red wire with the white stripe on P6 connector.

NOTE: I do not recommend checking voltages unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so.

I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your dishwasher.
