Question and Answers

Q:

lid lock wont release

A:

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

If you unplug your washer, let it sit for a few minutes, and then plug it back in the lid should unlock in about 4 minutes. If it does not unlock, you will have to raise the top to retrieve the clothing. I am including a set of images below that will demonstrate this procedure.

You will then need to put your washer back together and check for error codes. The error codes are extremely important in the diagnosis of this type of washer. This washer has a way to recall error codes. If the control detects a problem it will identify it with an error code. I am including this information in a set of images below.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website; Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to view the parts list diagram or purchase any parts needed for your appliance; Sears Parts Direct .

Please perform the diagnostic tests detailed here and report back with your findings. Be sure to record any failures and when they occur along with any error codes that are displayed.

Q:

Why won't the lock release on my oven after cleaning?

A:

Since the lock is stuck on the oven door, you will likely need a service call on this range. The door will normally unlock after a self clean cycle has ended and the oven is cooled. If you have a mechanical failure in the door lock or the control has failed, then the door will not open properly.

Here are some additional tips that may help:

Make sure that you do not have the control lock enabled. If there is a lock icon on your control, press and hold it for 3 deliberate seconds to unlock the control. If you do not see a lock icon on the control, press and hold the START button for 3 deliberate seconds to unlock the control. This may free up the control so that it will operate properly and so that you can unlock the oven door. You may need to try to put the oven into a clean cycle and then cancel it to unlock the oven door.
