Question and Answers

Q:

Should I replace the Controller or spark module on my Thermador gas cook top?

A:

I will not be able to say with any certainty which component is causing your symptom. Based on your details the failure is more likely going to be one of the 4 micro switches that is activated whenever any one of the 4 burner switches are turned on. It seems to me that the igniter is not sparking while the burner is on because it recognizes and detects the burner flame but when you turn the gas valve off, one of the micro switches remains on or shorted which continues to power up the spark module and it tries to re-ignite the burner not knowing you had turned off the gas valve. I recommend checking the operation of each one of the micro switches.

There is limited technical information available on this specific model and operation. I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your cook top.
