Question and Answers

Q:

Is it safe to attempt to replace the fuse controlling the cook top light on a microwave?

A:

NO, Do not attempt to repair your microwave for safety reasons. Even if the microwave is unplugged it can store up to 10,000 volts and can cause injury or death.

Looking at the wiring diagram that I added in an image there is no fuse controlling just the cook top lights. There is a main fuse (20 amp) and a bottom T.C.O (thermal cut off) and if either one was blown the microwave would be dead. The cook top lamp is controlled by a relay on the PCB board. It may have an open lamp relay on the PCB board due to the incorrect bulbs previously installed.

NOTE: Always unplug the microwave when replacing the cook top bulbs or it can cause the PCB board to fail.

I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your microwave.
