Question and Answers

Q:

Oven will not stay heated? FGF337GCB Frigidaire Gas range

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

In order for the oven burner to ignite, the glow bar igniter must glow and it must pull enough current/amperage to cause the oven gas valve to open. If the glow bar is glowing I suspect the glow bar igniter is too weak to pull enough current/amperage to open the oven safety valve. The igniter should remain glowing even if the oven burner does ignite. The only time the igniter should turn off is once the oven reaches the set temperature at which time the control removes the 120 volts power source from the igniter or when the oven is shut off. Once the igniter fades off, the oven safety valve will shut off the flow of gas to the oven burner.

Are you certain the glow bar igniter is shutting off when bake or broil is selected and started? If so, then it could have a faulty electronic oven control board or possibly a loose wire connection in the igniter circuit. It could also have a faulty oven safety valve but not likely.

If you find the igniter glowing constantly and the oven burner is not igniting, replacing the glow bar igniter will most likely resolve the problem with your oven. You can access and replace the igniter by removing the oven floor. There is two screws located on the back of the oven floor that will need to be removed. Lift the back of the floor up and slide it back in order to clear the front of the frame and then remove the oven floor. Note: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing.
