Q:

Oven won't light every time

A:

The gas valve will normally measure only 1.5 ohms of resistance. Since you just replaced the safety gas valve, a weak igniter is the most likely cause of this failure. The image below shows technical information on the glow bar igniter system. It appears that your range has a square Norton type of igniter. If the igniter is not heating properly, the resistance through that component will not decrease enough to allow the 3.2 amps of current through the circuit to open the gas valve. Replacing the igniter (part 5303935066) will likely fix this problem based on your description.

You can order the igniter from the Sears PartsDirect website.

Be sure that you unplug the range and shut off the gas valve before accessing internal components.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
