Question and Answers

Q:

Dishwasher water preheat

A:

Your symptoms point to a problem with that timer in the console or a wiring failure. I provided a wiring diagram for your dishwasher in the image below. The red line traces the circuit that is used for the heated dryer portion of the cycle. That circuit is good according to your description. The blue line traced the circuit that is used for heating water during the cycle. You could have a bad timer switch #6 or a connection problem with that white/red wire. If you want to fix this problem yourself, you can shut off the house circuit breaker for the dishwasher and check that white/red wire connection on the timer. If that connection is okay, then you will probably need to replace the timer. You can order that part from this page: Timer for Whirlpool Dishwasher DU890SWKQ0 . Be sure that you shut off the house circuit breaker for the dishwasher before accessing and replacing parts.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .

NOTE: If you want to continue to use the dishwasher without replacing that timer, you can consider adjusting the water temperature setting on your hot water heater so that 110 degree water is provided to the dishwasher. Be careful when adjusting that hot water temperature. Increasing it too much can cause scalding when that water is used in the sink, bathtub or shower. Normally, the 110 degree water will be hot enough to clean the dishes properly. The manufacturer recommends that 120 degree water be supplied to the dishwasher. Removal of phosphates from dishwasher detergent has also made it more challenging to clean dishes as well. Make sure that your detergent is fresh. Store it in a dry area. These additional tips may help. Let us know if you need more assistance.
