Broken gasket in GE Profile Dryer...Fire Hazard?

Thank you for your question.

I can understand your concern if this could be a safety issue.

It definitely is not good that this piece is broken on the dryer and it needs to be replaced because it changes the air flow over the sensor and it keeps the heat on two long and could cause a problem.

To replace this piece of the front drum seal and support you will need to remove the front panel.

Referrence the key part location # 313 in the image below.

  • First REMOVE POWER to the dryer.

  • Open the door of the dryer and locate the two to four screws that secure the top to the front panel.

  • Then lift the top and tip back.

  • Locate the two 5/16 screws that secure the side panels to the front panel.

  • Tilt the top of the front panel out enough for the front panel to clear the drum opening and lift the front panel up to release from the bottom of the cabinet.

You will now have access to the front support and seal.

The part number for this part is: WE3M26 and you can purchase it from: Sears Parts Direct .

There will be instructions in the parts package for installing this part.

I hope this will help.

Thank you for using Manage My Life.
