Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't my GE Harmony dryer model DPGT750EC1PL start?

A:

Several different problems could prevent your dryer from running. You could have a failed door switch, a broken drive belt, an open safety thermostat, a failed control board, a bad drive motor or a wiring failure between components in the motor circuit. Here are some troubleshooting tips:

  • Make sure that the door is firmly closed when starting the cycle.
  • Open the dryer door and make sure that the drum light comes on when the door is open. Press the door switch in to simulate the closing of the door to make sure that the drum light turns off. If the light does not turn off when the door is closed, then a bad door switch is preventing your dryer from running.
  • A broken drive belt will prevent the motor from running. Disassembly of this dryer is more complicated than most other models. If you are able to unplug the dryer and safely access the internal components, you can check for a broken belt. I provided some disassembly procedures in the image below.
  • You can also check for loose wiring connections that could be causing this problem (with the dryer unplugged).
These tips may help you determine the cause of your dryer problem. If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details.

Q:

Dryer noisy?

A:

You could have a problem with the support rollers (KEY 273 in the parts image shown below). You can unplug the dryer and lift the top panel off of the dryer as shown in the second image. You can then manually spin the drum to see if you can determine the source of your noise. An intermittent noise can sometimes be difficult to diagnose.

If you find the cause of the noise and need parts, you can order them from the Sears PartsDirect website.

If you need more help, reply with additional details.

Q:

GE Harmony Dryer Mdl DPGT750EC1PL Ser ZF700016M - touch panel display works OK but none of the membrane pushbutton switches work. Have replaced Display board.

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The best thing to have done is to let GE complete the repair. Based on your symptom it sounds like it has faulty control panel or PCB.

The first thing to check is the CN13 connector on the main PCB. Disconnect the CN13 connector which connects the membrane switch to the main PCB and then reconnect the CN13 connector. Check the CN13 harness for any loose or broken wires. It's possible that it was not making a good connection. If the push buttons on the membrane switch continue to not accept any commands, it could have a faulty membrane switch or PCB control. The control panel assembly comes with the membrane switch. NOTE: Be sure to disconnect the dryer from the power supply before accessing and checking the CN13 connections.

I added an image below and I circled the CN13 connector inside the red circle. I also added the instructions for placing the unit in the test procedure which is intended for the service technician.

Charlette: I added an image below and I circled the CN13 connector on the main PCB control. The CN13 connector is where the control panel is connected to. I hope this is helpful.

Roger: Voltage measurements will need to be performed using the wire diagram in the image above I posted in my last response to Charlette. NOTE; I do not recommend measuring any voltages unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so; otherwise I strongly suggest calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your dryer. Roger: Voltage measurements will need to be performed using the wire diagram in the image above I posted in my last response to Charlette.
