Question and Answers

Q:

Where is the reset button for a 5600 generator, to clear led screen of "c1"?

A:

I'm not finding the specific "reset" button either. Look on the "Maintenance Reminder" display for a small push button even though it does not indicate one in the user's manual. If there is no small button on the display, press one of the circuit Reset buttons to see if it will reset, otherwise I recommend calling a service technician to service the generator and reset the "reminder".

Q:

what do codes 5L an C1 mean on my Kenmore Elite Calypso washing machine

A:

The 5L (SL) indicates that you have a suds lock in the washer. This is caused by excessive suds. The C1 indicates in instantaneous over-current trip on the drive motor. I provided the technical explanations of these codes in the image below.

I assume that you already unloaded the washer and cleared the codes. You can use the diagnostic test procedure shown in the second image to check the washer and see if the C1 code still appears. If it does, then you may have a problem with the motor or the motor control board. I provided technical information in third image that you help you check those components if you are advanced in technical skills. NOTE: That information is intended for technicians. It contains live voltage checks. You should only conduct those tests if you are completely confident in your technical ability to safely execute them . Reply with additional details if you need more help.

NOTE: Unplug the washer when accessing internal components. If you need to plug the washer in to conduct at test, be sure that you unplug it immediately after completing the test.

I provided some access information in the 4th image below.

If needed, you can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Since the washer will not drain properly, you could have something stuck in that pump. Try to gravity drain the washer by placing a bucket on the floor next to it and holding the drain hose just over the container. If it won't gravity drain, you can drain the washer by bailing out the water and using a wet/dry shop vacuum. UNPLUG the washer and remove that front panel. Check the pump and the connecting hoses for a clog or obstruction. If you find no clogs or obstructions, then you probably will need to replace that drain pump. The drain pump assembly costs around $150. The part number for the replacement drain pump assembly that includes the motor and the pump is 285990. Based on the failures that you have had with this washer, I recommend that you consider replacing it if possible. I provided a Sears.com link for a direct drive front load washer that is reasonably priced below this response. If you need more help, let us know.

Q:

Kenmore elite calypso mod num 8283430 error code c1

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The "CI/C1" indicates an instantaneous current limit. This means there is an instantaneous current draw of 26 Amps at the motor windings. This could indicate problems with the drive motor, motor control board or excessive friction in the drive system or a locked u-joint assembly. I highly recommend calling a service technician to diagnose the failure or consider replacing this Calypso washer. The only thing a person can check is the resistance of the motor windings. Red to White should measure 3.1 Ohms of resistance. Yellow to White should measure 2.8 Ohms and Red to Yellow 5.9 Ohms of resistance.

If the motor windings tests Okay, the problem is likely caused by a friction issue with the u-joint assembly or basket drive. Removing and replacing these components would likely be near impossible due to the age and wear of the washer. I seriously recommend thinking about replacing the washer rather that attempting to repair it.
