Question and Answers

Q:

How can I access the belt in my LG electric dryer?

A:

Based on your details there could be a friction issue preventing the motor from starting on its own. It could also be a motor issue, support roller issue, something in the blower housing or a low voltage supply to the motor preventing the motor from starting on its own.

I added the instructions on how to access and remove the drum in the images below. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing your dryer.

Disconnect the belt and manually spin the motor pulley to see if the motor spins freely. Turn the drum while the belt is off to see if it spins freely too.

Q:

LG Dryer

A:

Your symptoms point to a problem with the door switch on the dryer. The display will normally flash when you press the start button and the door is not being detected as closed. Check to see if the drum light is turning off when you close the door. If that light stays on, then the door switch (part 6601EL3001A) is bad. You can order that part from the Sears PartsDirect website. Here is a direct link for that part: Switch . Be sure that you unplug the dryer before accessing internal components. You may be able to carefully pry that door switch out from the front panel of the dryer. If not, you can remove the top panel as shown in the second image. If you need to remove the control panel, I provided the procedure for that routine as well in case you need it.

If the drum light does turn off when the door is closed, you could still have a problem with that door switch. You could also have a problem with the wiring or the control board in the dryer. I provided some technical information and troubleshooting for that door switch in the first image below. You can unplug the dryer and use that information to check the door switch if necessary. If you need more help, reply with additional details.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
