Question and Answers

Q:

Dryer Flooded

A:

The burner assembly could have been damaged during that flood. I recommend that you have a service technician examine the dryer before you attempt to use it. You could have a short in the wiring that could cause a dangerous situation. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

If you are certain that there are no shorts in the wiring and you want to diagnose and repair this problem yourself, I recommend that you check to see if the igniter on the gas valve is glowing when the dryer is running in a heated circuit. The image below shows how to check that igniter. If that igniter is not glowing, it may need to be replaced. You could also have a bad safety thermostat or a wiring failure that would prevent the igniter from glowing. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website if needed.

Reply with additional details if you need more help with this failure.

Thanks for posting that additional information Maxie. You are generally correct about the fuses in most dryers. This particular model has safety thermostats instead of fuses. Those components will reset instead of blowing and then needing to be replaced.
