Q:

Info: Craftsman Riding Mower -15.5 Kohler Engine Model # CV15S Spec # 41526

A:

Thank you for your question.

I will be happy to assist you. I have looked up the model number you have submitted. This engine requires the use of a high quality detergent oil of API (American Petroleum Institute) service class SG, SH, SJ or higher. If the engine is going to be operated in temperatures higher than 32 degrees, you should use 10W30.

I have posted an image below that has the engine specifications below. Click on the image to enlarge it.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance on the tractor.

Thank you for using Manage my life.

Mark.

Q:

ON THE KOHLER 15 HP CV15S ITS SEEMS ITS HOLDING A LOT OF PRESSURE ,BECAUSE I CAN TURN THE FLYWHEEL WITH A RATCHET AND ITS TIGHT TO THE TURN.

A:

When the engine is rotated to the compression stroke before the ignition module fires the plug it will create 90 psi inside the cylinder. It is normal for the flywheel to be hard to turn.

When the piston passes the compression stroke the flywheel should get much easier to turn until it starts the compression stroke again.

Q:

riding mower starts but cuts out and stops

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry to hear you are having problems with the tractor. By what you stated it sound as if you have a fuel problem with the tractor. I recommend moving the tractor to a well ventilated area and let it cool. If the fuel tank is in the front of the tractor remove the fuel line from the carburetor and place it into an approved container. Then monitor the fuel flow. You should see a steady flow of fuel. If it slows down I recommend removing the fuel cap. If the flow picks up the vent in the cap is plugged. If the flow does not pick up I recommend replacing the fuel filter.

If the flow never slows, I suspect the inlet in the carburetor is plugged. To cure this the carburetor will need to be cleaned or replaced. If you need assistance doing that, please let me know. I will be happy to give you the instructions.

If this is not the problem, please reply below with more details and a model number of the tractor. Thank you for using Manage my life.
