Q:

Mower stops running after approximately 6-10 minutes time

A:

Even though you have checked the cap, please follow these instructions. Next time the engine starts to die, loosen the fuel cap for ten seconds. If the engine smoothes out, I recommend replacing the fuel cap. The fuel cap has a vent that should allow air to replace the used fuel. If the vent is plugged, fuel will eventually stop flowing from the tank. The fuel filter and the fuel pump if your tractor has one could also cause the same issue.

If you do not think fuel is not the problem, you have to determine if the engine has spark. To check the engine for spark remove the spark plug wire and insert a screwdriver into the boot. Make sure to hold the handle of the screwdriver and position the exposed metal portion of the screwdriver close to something metal on the engine. A bolt head will work well. Then try to start the engine. You should see a spark from the screwdriver to the bolt head. This mean the coil is good. If you do not see a spark most likely the coil need to be replaced. If you see a spark the problem is most likely fuel related. I hope this is helpful. If you need further assistance, please submit more details.

Q:

It takes 6-10 attempts of "Clicking" before my Craftsman riding mower will engage and start. Cause??

A:

If the clicking is coming from the starter solenoid, the contacts in the solenoid are failing. If the clicking is coming from the ignition switch or the engine, the ignition switch is failing.
