Question and Answers

Q:

What does "PF" and "CE" error codes mean?

A:

The model number you provided is not a valid model number, and the serial number is not a valid serial number for a Calypso washer.

However, "PF" indicates a power failure and "CE" indicates a break down in communications between machine control board and the motor control board. It could be a loose connection, failed machine board, motor control board or motor failure.

The odor is most likely caused from over sudsing or using the wrong type of detergents. The basket may need to be removed so that one can inspect and clean the inside of the outer tub. High Efficiency detergent is recommended for high efficiency washers.

The sound of water when you move the tub is most likely the water inside the balance ring that is mounted on top of the spin basket. The balance ring is half filled with water. It is normal to have water in the balance ring which is used to help balance an unbalanced load when spinning. It will sound like water splashing when the tub is shaken.

I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your washer.

Q:

What does "CE" error code indicate?

A:

The "CE" error is indicating a breakdown in communication between the machine controller and the motor controller or between the motor controller and the motor. It could have a failed motor control board, machine control board or motor if there are not any loose or bad wire connections. Without knowing the complete model number I will not be able to provide any model specific part numbers for the motor control board, machine board or motor. The likely failure is the motor control board.

I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your washer or resubmit your question with the complete model number for model specific repair instructions.

Q:

CE code on my washer

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The "CE" fault code indicates a Communications Error.

Some common causes of "CE" errors include:

  • Conformal coating on serial communications pins between the machine controller and motor controller. After disconnecting power to the unit, try scraping this coating off the pins.
  • Check the resistance values between the serial communications pins with the connectors in place. Make sure the harness does not have a bad connection.
  • Check the quick disconnect at the motor terminal. The drive motor must be hooked up properly or a "CE" error will occur.
  • Drive motor thermal protector has opened.
  • Motor controller is not powered or fuse has opened. Replace motor controller.

The failure is likely one of these two components;

  • Motor control board part #8541034
  • Machine control board part #8542693R

I added a couple of images below showing how to remove the console to access the motor control and the machine control boards. I suspect it has a faulty motor control but it could also be caused by the machine control board.

You can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.
