Q:

How can I fix the CI and CA error codes on my washer?

A:

If a status signal comes back from the motor controller that a current limit has been breached, the unit will return to standby mode and display either “CA for average current limit trip, or “CI for instantaneous current limit trip.

Average current trip occurs if there is a 2-second average of current draw greater than 5.55 Amps at the motor windings.

Instantaneous current trip occurs if there is a spike of 26 Amps instantly at the motor windings.

  • This may signify problems with the drive motor, thermal protector, or motor controller.
  • Overloading the unit may cause this problem. _ Press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display.

First, you will need to check for any resistance or binding of the empty spin basket when rotating it by hand. If the basket spins easily and smoothly without any noises most likely the cause of the CI and CA error codes is either the drive motor or motor control board.

A technician would first ohm the motor windings and compares his readings to the Drive Motor winding resistance chart. I added the chart in the image below.

If the motor checks out OK, the technician would replace the motor control board and then test operation.

I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your washer.

Q:

top loading washer will not spin error ca

A:

The CA error code indicates that the motor was drawing excessive average current. This is sometimes caused by a bad motor. It can also be caused by excessive mechanical friction in the drive system for the basket or the wash plate. Overloading the washer can sometimes cause this problem.

See if the CA error code is displayed if you reduce the size of the load. If not, you may be able to continue using the washer with smaller loads.

An item stuck under the washer plate could cause this failure. If you are able to unplug the washer and remove the wash plate as shown in the image below, you may find an item in this area that is causing your problem.

If these tips don't help, then a service technician will normally need to diagnose and repair this type of failure. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

NOTE: The model number for your washer appears to be slightly off. This answer is based on model 110.25062500.

Q:

Why is my Kenmore Elite washer model 11022062101 displaying the CA code when it is ready to spin?

A:

The CA error code indicates that the average current amp draw from the motor windings exceeds 5.5 amps. This can be caused by overloading the washer. Remove some of the load and see if you still get the CA error code. Run the washer with no clothes added and see if the error code appears. If it does, then a friction problem, a motor control problem or a drive motor failure could be causing this error code. I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair this type of washer problem.
