Powermate C50XCRF0W017 problem

Thank you for your question on the power mate running intermittently.

You are correct in that you have a bad connection what sounds like in the handle to wand.

I would suggest that you replace the both connection points by replacing the handle harness and the terminal connector in the wand.

It will require that you take the handle apart to replace the handle harness and also take the wand apart to replace the connector in the top of the wand tube.

If you feel comfortable with, and have some mechanical ability for replacing these parts I will give you the instructions for this repair.

If not then I would suggest taking it in for service at you local Sears Retail drop off point.

I have a Kenmore Canister Vacuum. The part I'm referring to is #C50XCRF0W017.

I can understand wanting to know why the vacuum will not stand in the upright position.

You are speaking of the floor nozzle. In the upright position there is a friction catch that is down inside the floor nozzle power mate that holds the wand in the upright position when not in use.

It is the red part in the picture that has a catch on the bottom and locks into the swivel above. It must be worn so it will not longer hold the wand and hose upright.

Yes, in the carpet mode the agitator is supposed to rotate.

If sounds like it is broken. Also it sounds like the roller is not turning and this could be caused by the overload protector being tripped.

  • You can reset the overload by pushing on the reset button until you hear a click.

If the overload reset is okay then you may have a switch on the handle is not making contact with the power to turn the floor nozzle motor on.

You may also have a broken wire in the hose and or a bad connection on one of the plug-in connectors from the handle down the hose to the power mate connection at the end of the wand.

In order to repair the first problem you will need to open up the power mate nozzle assembly.

  • Flip the power mate over and remove the screws that secure the top cover to the base.

  • Then flip back over and remove the light lens and remove the light bulb.

Then use you hands to flex the sides of the cover out and lift up to remove.

  • Once you have the cover off you can see the swivel lock and set lever to see what is broken.
