Q:

Kenmore Elite HE 5t

A:

Thank you for your question.

The F35 indicates a water level pressure sensor failure. The SUD is normally displayed when there is excessive detergent suds in the tub. Make sure you are only using the recommended amount of HE detergent. Then run the washer without clothes on a drain and spin cycle. If the tub is empty and you do not see any suds please continue with the following trouble shooting tips. A loose wire harness connection could be causing this problem if there is no water or suds in the tub. I recommend unplugging the washer and removing the top panel. Screws at the very back of the top panel secure it to the washer frame. Remove the screws and then pull the top panel slightly back and then up and off of the washer. The analog water level pressure sensor is shown in the first image below. The second image shows a clear picture of this component. Check the wire harness connection on this sensor. If you find a loose connection, secure the wire harness properly on the component then reassemble and test the washer. If you continue to get the F35 code, then the pressure switch will need to be replaced.

You can order a new analog water level pressure sensor from the Sears PartsDirect website.

If you need more help with this problem, reply with additional details and the full model number of your Kenmore Elite HE washer.

I have checked the model number you have submitted and the information I had given earlier is correct. Please follow those steps. If you still have the f35 error code, I recommend replacing the pressure switch. Please let me know if you have any other questions after you have checked the washer. Mark T.

Melanie: The F35 and suds error are both related. Replace the pressure switch as Mark T . reccomended and your washer will no longer stop and display F35 and Suds.

Q:

kenmore elite washer HE 5t

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern. Just for your information, the number you provided is not the model number of your washer, it's the part number of the User's manual.

The "F21" fault code means it's taking too long to drain water. If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes, "F21" will be displayed, the water valves will turn off and the drain pump will stop running. Press PAUSE/CANCEL to turn the drain pump back on to see if it drains any water.

If you hear the drain pump running and it's not draining water, it may have a clogged drain pump filter.

If you do not hear the drain pump running then it could have a faulty drain motor, jammed drain motor or possibly a faulty control board.

I added a couple of images below with information and instructions on how to access and clean the drain pump filter. NOTE: Be sure to disconnect the power cord from the power source and remove all the water from the tub before removing the drain pump filter. Have a shallow pan handy to slide under the pump and old towel because there will be some water pouring out as soon as you remove the pump filter.

Q:

What does "F21" code mean that displays on my HE 5t washer?

A:

The "F21" fault code indicates it takes too long for water to pump out of the tub. This can be caused by using too much High Efficiency detergent or using too much of the wrong kind of detergent. This error code can also be caused by debris in the drain pump or a faulty water level pressure switch.

If the fault code reappears after cleaning the pump filter and by only using 1 tablespoon of detergent, then I would recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your washer. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before removing the lower access panel and cleaning the pump filter. Be sure to have all the water pumped out before removing the pump filter cap. You also will need an old large towel to soak up residual water once you remove the filter cap.

That F20 code indicates that the control does not detect water entering the washer. The image below shows the specific details of that error code. You can check to make sure that both the hot and cold water supply faucets behind the washer are fully open. Check the fill hoses for kinks. Check the screens on the inlet water valve connections on the back of the washer. If those screens are clogged with debris or sand, I recommend that you replace the water valve assembly. These tips may help you with this failure. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details and the full model number of your HE5t washer.
