Question and Answers

Q:

How do I access & replace the heating element on my Amana dryer model ALE643RAW?

A:

Unplug the dryer to disconnect electrical power. Internal metal edges inside the dryer can be sharp. Protective gloves are recommended. To access and replace the heating element (with the dryer unplugged), remove the bottom front service panel as shown in the image below. The heating element is on the back, bottom left side inside the dryer cabinet. With the bottom front service panel removed, you should be able to remove the wires (make a note of the location of the wires before removing them – take a digital picture if necessary) from the heating element and remove the screws that secure it in the heater box. Pull the element down and out to remove it. Transfer the components (high limit thermostat and thermal fuse) to the new heater element. Install the new element and reconnect the wires. Reassemble the dryer and test the new element.

If you have trouble reaching the element then you may have to remove the front panel and drum.

If you still have problems with the dryer heating properly after changing the heating element, resubmit your question with additional details.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
