Question and Answers

Q:

What does "AF" mean on my dryer?

A:

The letters "AF" flashes if a restricted air flow condition exists, meaning that 3 consecutive cycles were run with airflow less that 19CFM. Check the entire venting system for any kinks or restrictions. Check the door seal and drum seals.

If you use fabric softener, fabric softener can build up an invisible layer covering the lint filter screen and restrict the air flow through the lint filter. Remove the lint filter and wash the screen under the sink with warm water and detergent using a soft bristle brush.

Note 1: The error code can be cleared by pressing the Drying Temperature pad for 5 seconds while in a stand by mode. AF will flash in the display for 1 second then "ON" will appear in the display. Pressing Drying Temp again and "OFF" will appear in the display.

Note 2: Press Start to turn the blocked vent detection off. F30 will be stored in the EEPROM.

Q:

Why does my Oasis dryer indicate AF & won't dry?

A:

Without a full model number, I am not able to see the exact type of Kenmore Oasis dryer that you have. Here are some tips that should help you resolve this problem:

  • If you use dryer softener sheets, I recommend pulling out the lint screen and carefully washing it with water. Residue from dryer softener sheets can inhibit air flow through this screen. Let the screen dry completely and then replace it and test the dryer.
  • If you have an electric dryer, I recommend pulling the flexible vent off of the back of the dryer and allowing it to vent directly into the laundry room for a test cycle. If the dryer does not display the AF while venting directly into the laundry room, then your problem is caused by a restricted vent duct to the outside of the home. A gas dryer must always be properly vented to the outside of the home. You can try a brief test in a well ventilated laundry room if you have a gas dryer. After the brief test, reassemble the vent system to the outside of the home.
  • The images below provide disassembly instructions for a common Kenmore Oasis dryer. You can follow these procedures to access and check the blower belt and blower housing for problems. Unplug the dryer before accessing internal components. Only attempt these procedures if you are completely confident that you can properly complete them.

If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details and the full model number of your Kenmore Oasis dryer.

Q:

What is an AF error in a Kenmore dryer?

A:

The AF error code is a restricted airflow problem.

  • Check the lint screen.
  • Check the vent. Try running a cycle with wet clothes while you have the vent disconnected from the dryer, (Make sure you vent the laundry area well by leaving a door or window open) if the clothes dry you have a vent blockage.

If you require further assistance please resubmit question with details of the checks you have made. I will be looking forward to helping you again in the near future.
