Q:

Why is my Whirlpool washer model LSR8233EQ/Z not filling up with water as fast as before?

A:

You could have a problem with the water supply or you could have a failed inlet water valve. A wiring problem, temperature switch problem or a timer contact failure could also cause this problem.

Here are some tips that may help:

  • Make sure that the faucets for the fill hoses behind the washer are open fully.
  • Check the fill hoses for kinks. Shut off the water valves and pull the hoses off of the back of the washer. Place the ends of the hoses in a bucket and briefly turn on the faucet for each hose to check the water pressure and flow from each hose.
  • Check the inlet water screens. If they are clogged with debris or hard water deposits, I recommend replacing the inlet water valve assembly. You can order this part from the Sears PartsDirect website. The part number is 285805. The procedure for accessing this valve assembly is shown in the first image below. Be sure that you unplug the washer and shut off the water supply before accessing this component.
  • If the above tips don't help you resolve the filling problem, check the filling in the rinse portion of the cycle. This portion of the cycle will apply voltage directly to the cold water valve (and sometimes the hot depending on the type of water temperature switch that you have). If the washer fills normally in the rinse cycle, try different settings on the temperature selector switch in the initial fill portion of the cycle to see if this affects the filling. If it does, you could have a problem with the temperature selector switch, the timer, the wiring or the hot water valve. The wiring diagram for your washer is shown in the second image below.

Q:

Why won't my Maytag Epic Z washer power up and unlock after completing a cycle?

A:

The door can be manually unlocked.

  1. Disconnect the power cord from the power source.
  2. Remove the lower access panel.
  3. Reach up along the inside of the front and locate the bottom of the door switch/lock mechanism.
  4. Located on the bottom of the door switch/lock mechanism is a tear shaped tab.
  5. Gently pull the tab down about 1/4 inch or until a click is heard.
  6. The door can now be opened.

Since you stated the outlet has power. Check for power going to the Central Control Unit (CCU)by listening for a faint click in the Central Control Unit (CCU) when the washer is plugged in the power outlet. If no faint click is heard, it could have a failed Central Control Unit or possibly a failed line filter. I added some diagnostic information in the image below.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
