Question and Answers

Q:

My Genie model 409 is not staying partially open. The carriage is attached and the screw turns after the motor is stopped.

A:

The garage door opener does not have a brake in it. The garage door has to be balanced so it will stay where it stops. To test this, close the door and pull the emergency release rope to disconnect the carriage from the door. Manually lift the garage door to the half way position and let it go. If the door opens or closes, the spring or springs on the door need adjusting or replacing.

If you attempt to adjust or replace a door spring, be very careful. Garage door springs are very strong and can cause bodily harm if they come loose. We recommend letting a garage door technician repair the problem.

Q:

Repair of Craftsman scroll saw switch

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the saw. By looking at the parts break down the retainer only holds the spacer in place. I do not see where removing it will cause any problems. After you make the repairs be sure to reinstall the spacer and retainer.

If the saw is considered shop, it is a product that is small enough for the customer to bring to the store for the repair. If you do not feel comfortable repairing the saw yourself I recommend calling your local Sears store to find out where to bring it. I am sorry they had said a service tech would need to come out.

Please let me know if you need further assistance on the saw I will be happy to assist you.

Q:

Craftsman lawn tractor dr belt

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with replacing the belt on the tractor. I have checked the dimensions of the belt and it should be 1/2" x 90". The easiest way I have found to replace the drive belt is to remove the mower deck. Once the deck is removed, you have better access to the belt. I have provided you the instructions for removing the deck and installing the belt. After you have the belt on, I recommend testing the operation before installing the deck. If it is ok go ahead, clean the bottom side of the mower deck, and reinstall it.

Please let me know if you need further assistance on the repair of the tractor.
