Q:

Water Softerner Installation outside in SW FL?

A:

Thank you for your question.

I will be happy to assist you. If you are going to install the water softener outside, you need to make sure the temperature will not drop below freezing. If the water in the softener freezes, it will ruin the softener. If you do not have to worry abut freezing temperatures, it can be installed outside as long as it is protected from the weather. These are not usually installed outside so I do not believe the plastic is uv protected. I also recommend doing your best to protect it from bugs. If small bugs get into the salt tank and die, they could plug the ventui in the softener.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Q:

I have a kenmore elite h3washer 5yrsold and had 2 power outages, it goes to rinse cycle then blinks faults or F and H. which boards got fried? thanks stephen j

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the washer. The FH error code will come up if the washer does not detect water entering the washer. I recommend checking the cold-water valve before replacing the machine control board. It is only failing just on the rinse cycle. The rinse cycle usually only uses cold water. First, unplug the washer and turn the water off. Then remove the cold-water hose from the back of the washer. You should see a screen that sits inside of the inlet of the valve. Make sure that screen is clean. You can flush the screen with a bowl of water and a turkey baster. Once the screen is clean, reconnect the hose and test the washer by running a rinse and spin.

If the water is coming in and the washer still fails I would suspect the washer is siphoning, a plugged air trap, or defective pressure switch. To check the air trap unplug the washer and remove the top. Then locate the pressure switch on the right side in the back. Remove the hose from the switch and blow into the end. You should be able to clear. If the hose is clear, I recommend replacing the switch.

If the washer does not attempt to fill on the rinse cycle, the problem could be a failed water valve, main control, or the wiring to the valve. Unplug the washer and remove the top. Then carefully check the connections on the main control and the water valve. If you have a meter, you can ohm the valve and the wire harness. If you get an open reading that component is defective. After making all of the above checks then I suspect a failed main control.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Jeff, I am sorry the part did not match the instructions. Sometimes the wrong instructions are put in with the part. If the terminals on the switch are the same as the old one it should be connected the same. If the burner is working as it should, I do not expect any problems. Just be sure the burner turns on and off and cycles when you have it on medium heat. If it does that, you should be fine.
