Question and Answers

Q:

My mower (only 1 mo. old) will not start w/the key, only w/the manual pull. What could be wrong?

A:

The battery on the mower should be charged overnight (8-10 hours) after each use. Try charging the battery for 24 hours and see if that works.

If charging the battery does not work, and the wires to the battery are connected tightly, you need to take the mower to a Sears Parts and Service Center or a Sears Retail Store for service.

You could have a problem with the key switch, the wiring harness, or the starter. Someone will need to check these with a volt meter.

Q:

HAVE 32" ELEMENTS TV, REMOTE QUIT, @ 1 POINT, COULD TURN TV OFF @ SET, THEN TURN BACK ON W/REMOTE, NOW TV WON'T RESPOND @ALL, HELP

A:

If you are sure that the remote is not the problem, then it only leaves the TV which would need to be serviced. The problem with using a universal remote as a second source is that you are not sure if that particular remote can even operate the TV. If you feel that you have a good match for the remote then you will likely need service.

Q:

I installed a gear assembly on the garage door opener. Now the motor only goes 1 ft then returns even w/o the chain on the sprocket. It is a 1/2 HP garage door opener. Why doesn't it work?

A:

Be sure the black plastic interrupter cup is pushed all the way onto the motor shaft. The edge of the interrupter cup should be running close to the bottom of the groove in the rpm sensor.

Another possibility is the trolley on the rail and the limit switch in the opener might not be synchronized. When you removed the worm gear you removed the small gear that drives the up and down limit switch. In the process of the repair the limit switch and the position of the trolley might have gotten out of synchronization.

You need to open or close the door and remove this small gear again. Manually turn the limit switch so the center contact almost touches the up or down contact to match the location of the trolley. Install the drive gear and adjust the up and down limits properly.
