Q:

What would cause the relay (key#15) to keep going off and on?

A:

Generally when a compressor won't start the compressor is either locked up or a bad start relay.

The relay (key#15) is actually a solid state start device that energizes the start winding momentarily until the compressor starts and runs, and then the start relay removes the start voltage to the compressor. The clicking noise is the overload kicking out because the compressor is not able to start and it's pulling excessive amperage.

If the compressor will start after leaving the refrigerator unplugged for 30 minutes and then a short time later it starts the clicking noise, check to see if the condenser fan is running. If the condenser fan motor is not running the high head pressures will cause the overload to shut off the compressor until the sealed system pressures equalize and the overload resets.

I recommend calling a service technician to properly diagnose the failure and give you an estimate of repair.

Q:

15" craftsman trimmer

A:

The hub is keyed on the motor shaft. Look on the parts diagram or go to www.searspartsdirect.com and pull up the parts diagram.

You need to remove item 30 by prying it off. Item 29 will slide off the shaft. Item 28 will unscrew off the motor shaft by turning it the same direction the spool turns when cutting. You can hold the motor shaft by holding the hub while removing the gear.

Everything else will slide off the motor shaft.

Q:

15 in planer model 351.217450

A:

Thank you for your question on the elevation knob for the planer.

Is the cutter case moving if you do not hold it with your hand?

There is a cutter case lock lever that you should be engaging before you pass the board through the cutter.

If you lock it you will have less snipe on the ends of the board and the elevation adjustment should not move.

Because you have a double fan chip removal system with this model it may have more vibration and is causing the elevation lever to vibrate and move. If you use this planer quit a lot perhaps there is some wear in those parts.

If you lock that cutter case before you pass the board through the cutter head case should not move or change adjustment. The lock pushes on the column tube to hold the cutter case solid.

Please let me know if that is the issue and we can continue with troubleshooting with that information.

Thank you Heath for the update on the planer. You are right in that this model is different than the one I have. Mine has a lock you can set to reduce snipe. I was looking at the manual and on the underside of the base there is a chain tightener you may want to look at tightening to see if that will add some resistance and stop the lever from turning. Look at page 16 figure 33 to see if the idler sprocket can be tightened. Thank you for the pictures. Please let me know what you find. Sam A.
