Question and Answers

Washer smells like burnt rubber LAT9400AAW Maytag Maytag laundry

Thank You for choosing Sears I regret to hear that you are having issues with your washer and do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. Im looking at your model number LAT9400AAW and does it have the burning smell all the time or just during certain cycles?

If you smelled the burning smell during the drain and spin then perhaps the drain pump is at fault. There is a spin bearing that might be guilty but usually a spin bearing will squeal or sound like a train if it is bad.

If the noise is during agitation then the brake or clutch might be at fault. Does the basket turn during the agitation cycle? The brake may be slipping.

If the smell is all the time then I suspect the motor is most likely at fault. A motor drawing higher amperes than normal would run hot. The motor might even run hot enough to shut off on overload and not start again till it cools down.

This washer's cabinet can be removed and the washer ran. You might try this and see if the source of the smell becomes easier to spot.   If you have further questions please resubmit your question for further information.
Thank you for choosing Sears
