Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

 Based on your symptom and details I would suspect a faulty lid switch.  In order to complete the motor circuit, the lid switch must close the contacts on the two terminals that the black and red wires are connected to. There are two sets of lid switches. The check switch is likely the one not closing and completing the circuit to the motor. Thelid switch assembly can be ordered from SearPartsDirect. You can disconnect the lid switches and test them across the terminals for continuity with an Ohm meter. Be sure to disconnect the wires from the switch before testing them for continuity.

The lid switch is located under the control panel. Disconnect the power cord from the power source before accessing the lid switch.
