Q:

no spark B& S 10Hp

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the engine. you did not mention it but I assumed you replaced the condenser with the points. First, I recommend checking the gap on the points. Once set make sure they close when the crankshaft is turned. Then check the air gap on the armature. It should be set at .012. If the engine still does not have spark I recommend removing the kill wire and checking for spark. If the engine does not have spark the problem could be points, condenser, armature, or magnets on the flywheel.

Please let me know what you find and I will try to assist you further.

Q:

how to remove a valve on a b&s engin

A:

Thank you for your question.

Replacing the valve on a small engine will require some special tools. You need to have a torque wrench, valve spring compressor, and a valve lapping tool. This is usually a suction cup on a stick and lapping compound.

To remove the valve, remove the cylinder head and the carburetor. If the muffler is in the way of removing the crankcase breather, you have to remove it as well. Then remove the crankcase breather to access the valve springs and keepers. Use the valve spring compressor to compress the valve spring and remove keepers. Once the keepers are removed you can slide the valve out.

When you reinstall the new valve, you have to use the valve lapping compound to seat the valve to the seat. After lapping the valves, you can reassemble the engine.

Please click on this link to view a video on how to use a valve spring compression tool . I have also provided you with the instructions out of the service manual below for adjusting the tappet gap.

A service technician usually does replacing the valves. If you are not sure of your capabilities, you may consider having the repair done. If you need further assistance, please reply with more details below.
