Question and Answers

How can I fix the door latch on my KitchenAid dishwasher model KUDM220T5?

The actuator (Key 9 in the first image below) pushes the lever on the interlock switch (Key 13 in the second image). Make sure that the actuator plunger is properly depressing the lever on the interlock switch. With the lever on the interlock switch (Key 13) depressed, you should measure continuity through the contacts on this switch. If you check this switch, be sure that you shut off the breaker to disconnect electrical power to the dishwasher before accessing this internal component. You can check the continuity through the switch by removing one wire and measuring the resistance through the switch with a volt/ohm meter. You should measure near zero ohms of resistance with the lever depressed. If not, then this switch will need to be replaced. The part number for this switch is 9740712. You can order this part online from the Sears PartsDirect website. You can also see the entire parts list diagram for your dishwasher on that website.

The door latch has an assembly linked to the cancel switch. If this assembly is broken, the dishwasher will not start properly.

These tips should help you resolve your dishwasher problem. If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details (refer to Key numbers from the parts diagrams).
