Question and Answers

Q:

speed control switch broke ordered replacement switch &the terminals dont match up.old switchhas three wires.checked websites for new wiring none.what can i do

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

According to the wiring schematic it shows 2 terminals on the fan switch and two black wires. If your old switch had 2 terminals and three wires, it likely had two wires connected to one terminal using a double spade connector.

According to information I found, part # 12002046 is the kit needed for your model. Install service part # 12002046, per instruction sheet # 16022041, for models: CVGX2423B/Q/W, CVG2423W, CVDX4180B/W, CVE3401B/Q/W, JED8430ADB/Q/W and model CVG2420B/W.

I added an image below with the wiring diagram of your cook top and information and instructions.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Jmark: It seems that you will need to order the kit I posted in the first response. You will need the fan switch/relay and jumper wire. The jumper wire will need to have the male and female spades installed on the end of the jumper as mentioned in the instructions. If you do not feel confident in making the repair, I strongly suggest calling a technician to repair your cook top.

Q:

Jenn Aire Electric Glasstop #JED8430ADB: How can I remove glass top out of the counter? Do I lift it up? I am checking to see why 2 burners are

A:

Here is a direct link for the installation instructions on this cook top: Installation Guide . You will need to reverse the installation to remove that cook top from the counter. Be sure that you shut off the house circuit breaker to the cook top before removing it from the counter and accessing internal components. Once you pull the cook top out of the counter, you should be able to access the switches and controls. To remove the cook top, you will need to remove the control knobs. You should find screws along the sides of the burner box that secure the cook top to the burner box. I provided the wiring diagram for Series 10 of this cook top in the image below. You may be able to use that information to diagnose your failure. If your serial number starts with 19 . . . or above, you will need to reply with that serial number to obtain the proper wiring diagram if needed.

You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website.

This range can be difficult to remove and service. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

I ordered part 71001166 from Sears to replace failed infinite switch in Jenn-air JEd8430ADB cook top. New part has 5 electrical leads not 7.

A:

According to your description, it sounds like you have the wrong part. You did not indicate which burner switch that you are replacing. The right front burner switch is the only one that should have 7 wires connected to it. I assume that is the one that you are replacing. The part number for the replacement burner switch for the right front burner is 12002125. You can order that part from this page: Kit, Dual Infinite Burner Switch for Jenn-Air Cooktop Model JED8430ADB.

Be sure that you shut off the house circuit breakers for the cooktop before accessing internal components and replacing parts.

I posted a wiring diagram in the image below that shows that right front burner switch.

If you need more help, reply with additional details.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.

Hello Len. I assume that you have the cooktop that is mentioned above (or a similar model). The first step in replacing the infinite switch in that type of cooktop is to shut off the house circuit breaker or unplug the unit to completely disconnect electrical power. You can then pull the cooktop out of the counter. Use the installation instructions to help you complete that task. Here is a link for the installation guide in case you need it: Installation Manual . Once you remove the cooktop from the counter, you can remove the screws from the burner box below the cooktop to access the infinite burner switch. Note the location of wires on the existing switch before removing them. Remove the knob from the switch and replace it with the new one. Properly connect the wires and reassemble the cooktop. Install the cooktop back into the counter and power it up. This information should help you with that repair. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details and the full model number of your cooktop or range.
