Q:

Craftsman Propane Torch

A:

Thank you for your question.  I am sorry you are having a problem with the striker for the torch. It is not uncommon for the flint to disintegrate over time. The flint is made from powdered flint. Whatever holds the power together breaks down and the flint comes apart. I looked up the dangers of flint dust and found it to be harmless in small amounts. Studies show it can be harmful to persons that have daily exposer over long periods of time. The Craftsman lifetime warranty is only hand tools. All power tools or tools with expendable parts carry a different warranty. If you would like you can replace the flints by simply unscrewing the tin part from the end of the rod. Your local Sears store should offer replacement flints. Another option is to purchase a new striker. We offer one type that cost $2.97. Click on the following link to see that striker. Forney torch striker.  I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.  Mark.
