Question and Answers

Q:

What does F 20 mean

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern. Without having the model number of your washer I will only be able to provide general information.

Generally speaking, the "F20" means no water is detected entering the tub or the pressure switch trip was not detected.

There is a good possibility the reason why is because some or all the water is coming out the dispenser. The reason why it's coming out of the dispenser is most likely due to a small garment was shoved up into the tube that delivers the water into the tub. This can happen if the washer is overloaded or if the garment is too small. Small garments should be placed in a garment bag before washing.

Remove the dispenser drawer and confirm there is no block there and then open the door and look at the rubber boot at about the 10 or 11 o'clock position and you should see where the water enters the tub. You will likely find a small garment up inside the tube restricting the fill water from entering the tub and causing the F20.

Q:

F 20

A:

The F20 indicates that the control is detecting a water fill problem. The technical explanation of that code is shown in the image below. I recommend that you conduct the troubleshooting described in that document. If the washer is not filling, you could have a problem with the water supply or fill hose. A bad inlet water valve assembly could also cause this failure.

If the washer is filling, you could have a bad water level pressure switch or a failed control board.

This information may help you determine the cause of your F20 code in the washer. If you need parts, you can order them from the Sears PartsDirect website. Be sure that you unplug the washer before accessing internal components.

If you need more help, reply with additional details.

Hello Scott. If the washer is filling with a large amount of water but it not being detected by the pressure switch, then the pressure switch or the air tube on the pressure switch is probably causing this failure. If the washer is not filling, you could have a problem with that control board or the water valves. Reply with the model number of your washer and the tests that you performed to narrow your failure down to the pressure switch or the control board. We will assist you further once we receive more information.

Thanks for adding that model number. If you just ran that rinse drain and spin cycle, the washer may have only used the cold water valve. You could have a problem with that hot water inlet valve. I recommend that you run the diagnostic test shown in the first image below to check the hot water valve. You can use that manual diagnostic test as well if needed. This should help you determine whether you have a problem with that hot water valve. Based on your description, this troubleshooting may help. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

Hello Terry. It would be unusual (but possible) for the water level pressure switch to go bad that quickly. The control will often display the F35 code if it senses that the pressure switch is bad in your model. The technical information for the F20 code is shown in the image below. Check to see if the washer is filling with water. If not, you could have a problem with the water valves. Make sure that the hot water faucet is fully open. A problem with the hot water supply (or not providing a hot water supply) to the washer can cause this code. A problem with the flow meter could also trip that code. I recommend that you check to see if the washer is filling and determine when the code is displayed (30 seconds or 13 minutes). Reply with those details and we will assist you further.

Based on the timing of that F20 code, you may have a leak in the air hose between the bottom of the tub and the pressure switch or a problem with that flow meter. I recommend that you UNPLUG the washer and remove the top cover as shown in the first image below. If the washer still has water in the tub, you can remove the air hose from the pressure switch and gently blow into it to check for an air leak. If the hose is leaking, it will need to be replaced. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect.com website (see link below). The second image shows how to remove the back panel and remove that air hose connection on the back bottom portion of the outer tub assembly. If that air hose is okay, then you can check the wiring connections on that flow meter. The third image shows that flow meter (circled in red) on the parts diagram for that portion of your washer. The 4th image shows how to access and replace that flow meter. You can use that information in the 4th image to check the wiring connections. If all of the wiring connections are okay, then you may need to replace that flow meter to fix this F20 failure. Be sure that you have the washer UNPLUGGED when accessing internal components. I hope that these additional tips help. If you need more assistance, let us know.

Q:

Do you have a 20/20 catalog for appliances that I can download?

A:

Kenmore does not offer a 20/20 catalog for their appliances at this time.

There are detailed specification sheets available on the Sears.com website in the Commercial section.

I included a link below for the Commercial section of the Sears.com website. I also provided a link for the specification sheet of one of the Kenmore bottom freezer refrigerator models. This is the extent of the information available for these types of refrigerators at this time.
