Thank you for choosing I will be more than happy to assist you. Im sorry to hear about your issue, its never good to have anything breaking/failing apart inside your dishwasher.

Im not sure what your talking about, Is it the key number 508 (in the diagram) That your referring too? If it is, then I would have to say yes, that part is a part that would need to be changed. That is what's catches most of the stuff that could damage the sump if it got thru.

New control panel gld4408r00w

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears
I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is trouble with the dishwasher.
Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your GE Dishwasher model number GLD4408R00WW.

First always when appliances go down is to flip your breakers.   It often helps.  Need to flip it firmly off and then back on after a few seconds.

There are 3 items to look at.   You can take a volt meter to them.

1.   Lid switch which is key number 3 on the diagram below.

2.  On the control panel when  you take it apart.  You see a control board on the back side.  On the control panel front is a ribbon.  You can take a volt meter to it and check for its continuity.  key number 896.

3.  Is the control board key number 9005.

Test them out and see which one is causing you the problems.

I hope this answers your questions but if you need further assistance please resubit another question with additional details.
