Question and Answers

Q:

Frigidire Washer #FWX833AS1: Original symtom: agitator wouldn't move from side to side with clothes in the washer. I noticed Key #11 was broken,

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I added an image below to reference of the agitator and the transmission shaft that the agitator is secured to. You can see that there is a hub (key#2) with a stud (key#1) which the agitator fits over and is held down with the agitator cap (key#1). Key #2 is held down with the key #1. Then shove the agitator down over key #2 and key #1 should protrude up through the center of the agitator which the agitator cap is the placed over the agitator and screwed onto the stud (key#1).

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Q:

Oil spill.

A:

Thank you for your question.

I can understand wanting to repair this transmission yourself.

This repair has a high degree of difficulty.

The bearing on the tail shaft of the transmission should be okay. It is the oil seal that has gone bad with the leaking of transmission oil.

You will have to disassemble this washer all the way down to the transmission to replace the transmission.

The manufacture of this transmission does not list the oil seal as a separate replacement part for the transmission. The transmission is usually replaced as a complete unit for an oil leaking problem.

If you are sure you want to do this task I will give you the information you need, but you will need to have a technical and mechanical ability to break this washer down completely. I would recommend having a technician service this washer.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Please reply with what ever you decide to do and I will be happy to help you.

Q:

Lid lock conundrum

A:

Hi Michael,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

I am sorry you are having problems with your washer.

The purpose of the lid lock is to prevent the lid from being opened during spin. Everything in this washer operates on 120vac.

From your description you either have a bad lid switch or a wiring short.

I have included a wiring diagram below.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.
