Question and Answers

Q:

My Kenmore dishwasher quit cleaning the dishes. Top and bottom.

A:

Hi Helen,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

The cup test is a great place to start. Make sure you place a cup in all four corners of the bottom rack and the top rack. If the 8 cups do not have equal amounts (full) of water in them after 5 minutes of wash you know you have a fill or distribution area. Let the washer fill and start a wash and then very slowly open the door. Wait until the dishwasher completely stops before you open the door all the way. The water level should be just below the heating element. If not, you will most likely need to replace the inlet valve.

Here is a video that will demonstrate cleaning the impeller area on a dishwasher similar to yours; Video . Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts. The dishwasher in this video may not look exactly like yours, but the procedure is basically the same.

Q:

Re: Kenmore Dishwasher: "Air Dry" button lit and will not go off so that another cycle can be started.

A:

The control lock for the dishwasher may be on. Press and hold the Air Dry button for 4 deliberate seconds (or slightly longer). This may disable the control lock so that the dishwasher control works properly.

If that does not help, you can try to reset the control board in the dishwasher by completely disconnecting electrical power for 5 minutes. Shut off the house circuit breaker for the dishwasher to disconnect power. Leave the breaker off for 5 minutes. Reset the breaker to restore power. See if the control works properly.

If not, then you could have a problem with the control panel or the control board. If you want to fix this type of problem yourself, reply with additional details and will assist you further.

If you want to have a service technician examine and repair the dishwasher, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services Dishwasher Repair.
