Question and Answers

My Frigidaire Gallery oven heats up but then shuts it self off whats up with that?

A weak ignitor could be causing this problem. Check the broil feature to see if the broil burner works properly. If the broiler works properly, then the oven temperature sensor and the control board are likely okay.

Pull the bottom panel out of the oven cavity. There are thumb screws at the back of this panel. Remove those screws and then lift the bottom panel up slightly and slide it back to clear the front lip of the panel. Lift the bottom panel out of the oven. Remove the flame spreader from the top of the bake burner. Set the oven in the bake mode and see if the glow bar ignitor keeps glowing when the oven cycles off. The theory of operation for the glow bar ignition system in this range is shown in the image below. If the ignitor continues to glow and the safety valve will not open or stay open, then a bad ignitor is likely causing your problem. You can order a new ignitor from the Sears PartsDirect website. The part number is 5303935066. Here is a direct link to that part: Ignitor .

If you have a clamp-on ammeter, you can check the amp draw through the wire between the ignitor and the safety gas valve to determine whether the ignitor is causing this problem.

If the ignitor is shutting off after the oven is preheated, you could have a problem with the electronic oven control board. I recommend that you have a service technician diagnose that type of failure. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .
