Question and Answers

dryer runnung DRSR495EG8WW Ge Electric dryer

Thanks for the inquiry and for using
I am sorry to hear of the issue you are having within the starting circuit on this GE dryer, I know how frustrating that is to have occur.
These can be tricky to diagnose, as it will consist of electrical checks and a multimeter would be needed.

If the dryer motor will run when the Push to Start switch is pressed then the motor, door switch, timer, push to start and thermal fuse are all okay. When the motor stops as soon as the Push to Start button is released, the problem most likely will be with the relay, control board, or a wiring connection.
When the start button is pressed the motor runs but the voltage is also applied to the start sense connection on the control. This 120 volts is how the control knows the start button was pressed and then will apply the DC voltage to the motor relay to keep the motor running when the start button is released.
We would recommend having a technician check the motor motor relay, board, and wiring with a multimeter. However, If you have access to a volt/ohm meter and are confident using it then check resistance across the motor relay where the pink/blue wires attach. Remember to unplug the dryer first.
If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, you can call 1-800-349-5071, or click here to be directed to the page to set up service.
Hope this helps and thanks for using We appreciate your business.
