Q:

I have a kenmore Elite Oasis gas dryer MODEL # IIO.7705. I have no flame. Gas and electrical supplies are ok. whats the deal?

A:

There is a small observation plug in the lower part of the front panel. You can observe the operation of the gas burner assembly with this plug removed while the dryer is running in heated cycle. I recommend that you pull the plug and start the dryer in a heated cycle. Observe the burner assembly through the observation hole. If the igniter for the burner does not glow, then your most likely failure is a blown thermal fuse. The first image below shows the location of the thermal fuse and has access information for this component. You can unplug the dryer and check this fuse with a volt/ohm meter to determine whether it is blown. Remove one wire and measure the resistance through this fuse. It should measure near zero ohms of resistance if it is good. If it measure Ol (open load or infinite resistance) then it is blown and will need to be replaced. You can order a replacement fuse from the Sears PartsDirect website. The part number for the thermal fuse is 3390719. NOTE: If the thermal fuse was blown, I recommend that you check the exhaust air flow system in the dryer for a clog or restriction. Check the lint screen. Wash the lint screen with water and soft bristle brush that tends to accumulate on this component. Check the flexible vent in the back of the dryer for a kink or clog. Check the exhaust vent duct system to the outside of your home. Make sure that the damper vent on the exit opening at the outside of your home is opening properly and unrestricted. An unresolved exhaust air flow issue could cause the thermal fuse to blow again shortly after it is replaced.

If the thermal fuse is okay, then you could have a blown thermal cut-off fuse, an open high limit thermostat, an open flame sensor, a failed igniter, a failed heater relay on the control board, a bad motor centrifugal switch or a wiring failure in the heating circuit. Reply with additional details if you need help checking these issues.

The theory of operation for the gas valve assembly is shown in the second image below. Understanding this theory can sometimes help you diagnose a failure in the dryer heating system. If the igniter is glowing and then cycling off but the gas valves are not opening to ignite the burner, then the gas valve coils (kit part 279834) are likely bad. Replacing the gas valve coils will likely fix this type of problem.

These tips may help you determine the cause of your dryer heating problem. If you need more help, reply with additional details.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

We have a Kenmore ultra fabric care washer that will fill up then agitate, drain & spin the 1st time but then sits and doesn't continue any ideas?

A:

I do not have enough details in order to fully understand the symptom. After it completed the first agitation cycle and then drained and spun, did it fill up with any rinse washer, and did it make any humming noises? Did you try pushing the timer in and rotate to any other cycles to see what it will do? Try resetting the water level switch when it just sits there.

Please resubmit your question with model number and additional details so we can get a better idea of what it's doing after it spun out the first time.

Carl, Thank you for the reply. Often times, floor models are sold with missing manuals and some non-essential parts. Because of this, the price is discounted. I am not sure the sales terms of which you purchased the snow blower. I recommend talking to sales rep you purchased the item. They can review and talk over the sales terms with you. If they were to be included, they can have the parts ordered. Please let me know if you need further assistance. Mark
