Q:

Kenmore 110 compact washer

A:

Hi Katie,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

I know how frustrating it can be when appliances do not function properly.

Without your model number I am only able to give you general information. I recommend checking the lock mechanism first.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

I hope this is helpful. Check the things I have covered here, and if I may be of further assistance please include your model number in a reply to this post.

Thanks again for using Manage My Life.

Q:

Kenmore Compact Refrigerator 56494256400

A:

I have one of those refrigerators in my home. I will need to check the physical location of that clip and wire. I think that it goes down the back wall of the refrigerator but I am not sure. I will update this thread once I look at mine.

I checked the refrigerator that I have. It is a similar model but not the same exact one. The sensor for that thermostat was clipped on the side wall and went to the back wall inside the refrigerator. Yours may be different but maybe this information will help.

Hello Rose. I will try to find a display model at our local Sears store and look at the location for that sensor. I will update this thread with more information after I look at the display model.

Q:

the compactor just hums and does not compact. and ideas why?

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

It would help to have additional details in order to have a full and better understanding of the symptom. Is the ram up or down? If the drawer will not open, the ram is likely in the down position. If you can open the drawer, the ram is up. Is the motor humming and not starting only when the start switch is rotate to start or does the motor actually start and run until you turn it back off.

If the drawer can be opened and the motor hums and quits after rotating the start switch, the chain drive could have possibly come loose and has the motor gear jammed. It could have a faulty motor or motor centrifugal switch or even a loose wire connection.

I added an image of the tech sheet below that a technician would use to diagnose the failure. I highly recommend calling a service technician with the proper equipment and knowledge to diagnose and repair your trash compactor.

The motor and start and run circuits will need be checked and tested for voltage. I do not recommend making any voltage checks unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so; otherwise I highly recommend calling a service technician.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.
