Thank you for your question. The 5d code is really SD code. The "SD" error code indicates a Suds Detection. SD is displayed when the machine/motor control analyzes drag on the basket detecting a suds-lock condition. This is generally caused by using the wrong type of detergent or just too much detergent.

The "F21" fault code will display if the drain time exceeds eight minutes. This fault code generally is caused by a restricted drain pump filter or using too much or the wrong kind of detergents.

The first thing to check and clean is the drain pump filter if the drain pump will run. If the drain pump is not running then it may have a jammed or faulty drain pump. I added an image below with instructions on how to access and remove the drain pump filter for cleaning. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before removing the lower access panel. Also, remove all the water that you can before removing the drain pump filter or all the water will pour out on the floor. Have a shallow pan and towels handy even though you have removed all the water from the tub there will be water left below the basket.

In order to access the drain pump filter the lower access panel will need to be removed. (See images below.)

  1. Disconnect the power cord from the power source.
  2. Remove the screws (key#21) along the bottom of the lower access panel.
  3. Slide the access panel down and off.
  4. Turn the filter (key#14) counterclockwise to remove the filter assembly.

NOTE: There will be a lot of water left inside the pump so place a shallow pan under the filter before removing. I would also recommend having an old bath towel handy too.

My Kenmore HE2 Plus washer MODEL 11047512602 is throwing an SD and F-21 code. We are using the correct detergent. Sears service guy is scheduled to come, but in 4 weeks. Have cleaned the filter and discharge hose is clear. Is there any other part I can clean or check just to try and get by. Pump is making a vibrating sound.

My front load washer model# 110.47532601 contantly throws an F21 and F33 codes. The drain pump was replaced three years ago. I always clean the pump filter every week, so I leave the front metal cover off for easy access. When I do clean the pump filter , I always check upstream of the pump for socks, etc. The wife knows not to over fill the soap as well.

LG Washing Machine-Top Loading High Efficiency Nightmare- Multiple problems WT4801CW Lg Washer

Thank you for choosing Sears and contacting us with your questions about your LG top loading HE washing machine model WT4801CW. I am so sorry you are having so many issues with it.  I will be happy to help you with this. In this case, since you would prefer to diagnose and complete the repairs yourself, I recommend investing in a service manual for this machine. The manual will include diagnostic and repair instructions based on symptoms (since you are not getting error codes) and disassembly instructions. If you can use a multimeter you should be able to conduct most of the tests yourself.  I have included the link below for you to order the manual.

Because you are having water temperature and water level issues, you will need to check the sensors, the water valve assembly, the switches and the control boards. The problems could be from one or a combination of these parts. That is why I think you will find the manual very useful.

SAFETY WARNING: Disconnect the power supply before beginning your repairs to prevent the risk of electrical shock which can result in property damage, serious personal injury or even death. Internal parts may have sharp edges. Use caution and wear work gloves to prevent serious cuts. If you are not comfortable completing this repair, you can set up service at or by calling 1-800-469-4663 (1-800-4MY-HOME).

I hope this answers your question. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.
