Q:

Range making wall and countertop hot to touch!

A:

Without physically examining the range, it is difficult to gauge the severity of this problem. Your concern about the heat seems to indicate that the counters and walls are getting pretty hot. I recommend that you have a service technician examine the range and check the insulation for the oven. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services . If the range is less than a year old and still under warranty, you can call Sears at 1-800-4MY-HOME (1-800-469-4663) and schedule service.

The link for a previous answer shown in the above response explains the cause of the Hot Surface light staying on constantly. You have a problem with one of the radiant elements. The technician can determine the failed element and replace it when you have the heat problem examined.

If the heat is not that severe, it could be normal. The range will generate some heat when the oven is being used. The vent below the console will allow some hot air from the oven to escape. This will heat the console. If you are certain that you do not need to have a technician examine the range and you want to fix the problem with the Hot Surface light yourself, reply to this thread and we will assist you further.
