Question and Answers

chainsaw engine runs but chain does not move! 944411364 Craftsman Chain saw

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having problems with the chainsaw. If the chain will not turn at all I recommend checking the chain brake. With the engine turned off, pull back on the chain brake lever. Then try to turn the chain with a gloved hand. If the chain still will not turn, I recommend removing the chain brake/cover. Then remove the bar and chain. The manual has the instructions for removing these. Once they are removed, try to turn the sprocket by hand. If it turns, I recommend running the chain through the groove in the bar. Is it seems to bind in the bar I recommend replacing the bar and chain. If the sprocket on the engine will not turn, the bearing in the clutch drum is seized or something is jammed in the clutch. You will need to remove the clutch to determine the problem. If you need to order parts for the saw, you can do so from the following link. Replacement parts for a Craftsman tractor model. 944411364.
