Question and Answers

Q:

I have a lawn mower that runs for about 20 minutes and cuts out, but can restart it by priming it . Why does it cut out and how can I keep it running?

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the mower. If you can start the mower, right back up after it stalls by priming it I suspect the problem is fuel related. Most likely a piece of dirt in the carburetor. I have found a video that will aid in cleaning the carburetor. Click here to watch the video.

If you have to wait a little while before it will restart, I recommend checking the engine for spark right after it stalls. To check for spark, you will need to carefully disconnect the spark plug wire. Then insert a screwdriver into the boot of the spark plug wire. Next, hold the shank of the screwdriver roughly a 1/4 inch away from a bare metal part of the engine. Then have a helper pull the starter rope a few times. If you do not see a spark jump, the ignition coil is defective. The parts can be ordered from our parts website: Sears Parts Direct .

Please let me know if you need further assistance on the mower.

Thank you for using Manage my life.
