Question and Answers

Q:

How do I remove the debris shield on model 917-379071.

A:

To remove the debris shield you have to remove the blade and the blade support. Drain the gasoline and oil from the lawn mower and turn it up on one side for access. Block the blade with a piece of wood to hold it while you remove the blade bolt.

Sometimes the blade support is difficult to remove. If it is rusted on the engine shaft you can clean the engine shaft where the blade support stops and spray it good with Liquid Wrench. Tap the blade support with a hammer to help the Liquid Wrench penetrate. You might have to repeat this operation several times over several hours before you are able to drive the blade support off the engine shaft.

I am sending you an image of the blade adapter and shaft so you can see what you are dealing with.

Q:

lawnmower

A:

Thank you for you question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the mower. It is unclean if the mower will start back up or if you have to wait for it to cool down. If the engine will start back up I suspect there is a problem with the carburetor or fuel system. Usually cleaning the carburetor will cure this.

If the engine has to cool before it will restart, I recommend checking the engine for spark after it quits. To check the spark you have to remove the sparkplug. Please be careful because it will be hot. Then connect the spark plug to the sparkplug wire. With a pair of insulated pliers, hold the end of the sparkplug against a bare metal bolt head. While holding the sparkplug, have someone pull the starter rope. When the engine spins, there should be a spark at the sparkplug. If there is not any spark the ignition coil is like the failed part.

Please provide more details if you need further assistance on the repair of the mower.
