Question and Answers

Q:

mower: #917378950 Craftsman Rotary; grass catcher issue

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the mower. I looked up the model number you submitted. You are correct it is hard to see where the bag should connect. I also looked in the manual without any luck. If you could please take a picture of the back of the mower with the mulch doo open and closed. Once I see the back of the mower I should be able to tell you what is missing.

I hope to hear from you.

Thank you for using Manage my life.

Mark.

Mike,

Thank you for the pictures. The bag on this model hooks on to the hinge pins for the rear door. I posted an image below that shows where they hook. Just click on the image to enlarge it. I also double checked the part numbers and they seem to be correct. Please let me know if you need further assistance. Thank you for using Manage My Life! Mark T.

Mike,

The best I can tell the hooks hook over the hinge pins for the rear door. I think my mower has the same set up. I will take a picture of it tonight and post it tomorrow. I sent my self an email to help me remember. With two little ones under the age of two, it gets a little hectic when I get home. Thank you for using Manage my life. Mark

Q:

lawn mower drive unit

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the mower. I will be happy to assist you. If the gear on the inside of the wheel is stripped, the wheel has to be replaced. As for the side that is locked. I suspect the problem is the pinion pawl is sticking. I posted an image below that shows the parts of the pinion. I recommend taking the wheel off first. Then turn the pinion by hand. If you cannot get it to turn, remove the c-clip that secures the pinion assembly. Then slide it off and clean the parts with brake clean. Once they are cleaned, apply some dry graphite to the parts, and reassemble. If that wheel still locks up, I recommend replacing the pinion.

The part for the mower can be ordered from the following link.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Q:

Lawnmower wont start

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Check and make sure the Operator presence control bar is pulled in all the way or it will not start. Push the fuel primer bulb several times and then attempt to start it 4-5 times and then remove the spark plug. If the spark plug is not wet with fuel, the carburetor float could be stuck in the up position. Remove the air filter and pour a thimble full of gas directly into the carburetor and then see if it will attempt to start. If it does not attempt to start, the spark plug is not likely getting any spark. If it's not sparking, the operator presence control bar cable is not likely being pulled enough to disconnect the ignition ground.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician fix this problem, you can take the mower into your nearest Sears Repair Center or Sears Store. Here is a link for the Sears Service website that has information on the nearest repair facilities in your area: Sears Home Services.
