Model #917377550 Craftsman walk behind lawnmower, gas

Question and Answers

Q:

I need the model, series number, a tear down manual, and torque specs for a Briggs & Stratton engine. Can you help?

A:

The engine number you have is the correct model and type of the engine on your lawn mower.

You will have to remove the blade adapter and pulley to replace the sump gasket. The blade adapter rusts to the engine shaft and is sometimes difficult to remove. The best method is to use rust buster liberally and tap the blade adapter to help the rust buster penetrate. You might need to apply rust buster 3-4 times to get the blade adapter loose.

The pulley will probably slide off fairly easily if you clean the engine shaft. Remove the set screw and spray rust buster inside the hole in the pulley.

After removing the pulley and blade adapter, remove the bolts around the sump and the sump will separate from the engine. The sump bolts should be torqued to 90 inch lbs.
