Question and Answers

Q:

wiring for my mower? 917376470 Craftsman Mower

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the mower. The engine has a safety switch on the left side of the engine. The switch is connected to the same bracket as the engine control cable. This is the cable that you pull to release the engine brake. If the wire is on the left side of the engine, I suspect it came off the safety switch. To locate the switch you may need to remove the plastic cover on the top of the engine. Once it is removed, you should be able to see the bracket and switch. Just connect the wire and check the operation.

If you cannot find the switch or the wire came from a different area, please reply below with more details. An image of the wire and its location would also be helpful.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Q:

I am having trouble with the electronic ignition for my Model #917376470 lawn mower. Can I get a schematic diagram of the ignition (electronic) system? 917376470

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the mower. The manufacturer does not have a wiring diagram for this style mower. I will be happy to explain how it should be connected. The black wire from the battery should be connected to the engine block. The red wire on the battery connects to a fuse first. From the fuse, the red wire runs up to the key switch. From the key switch, it goes to one side of the interlock switch on the engine brake assembly. It comes out of the interlock switch to the starter. If the starter motor does not run when you turn the key, I recommend checking the battery voltage first. If you have 12 volts at the battery, check the fuse. If the fuse is fine, I recommend checking the voltage on each of the wires on the interlock switch while the engine control bail is down and the key is turned to the start position. If you have voltage on one side but not the other the problem is the interlock switch is not activated or the switch is defective. If you have voltage on both wires, the problem is likely a defective start. Verify the voltage at the starter before replacing it. If you do not have any voltage on either side of the interlock switch, the key switch is likely failed.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
