Question and Answers

Q:

Lawn mover Model #917-374351 where is both ends of return spring p# 406558 connected to & what is the purpose of it

A:

Thank you for your question.

I will be happy to assist you with reconnecting the spring. I know they can be tricky to determine where to connect them. One end of the spring connects to the idler arm and the other end connects to the brace across the front of the transaxle. The image below shows where the spring connects. Q:

How do I replace cable from red handle to drive housing

A:

Thank you for your question.

I will be happy to assist you. I posted a few images below that show how the cable connects. Just click on the images to enlarge them. Before you start the repair, unplug the spark plug wire from the spark plug. Then take the drive lever housing apart. Be sure to note the position of all the parts. Many customers let the housing come apart without watching how the parts fit. Then have problems putting it back together. Once you have the cable out of the housing tip the mower on its side so the muffler is up. Then use a pair of needle nose to disconnect the other end from the gearbox. After you have the cable off, use the pliers to squeeze the mount to release the cable from the mower housing. Now reinstall the cable in the reverse order.

I hope this is helpful. If you need further assistance, please reply below with more details.

Q:

transmission on craftsman mower

A:

Thank you for your question.  I am sorry you are having a problem with the mower. If you just replaced the blade adapter and now the drive does not work, I recommend checking the belt. The belt might have not been put onto the pulley of the blade adapter. This is what usually happens. If the belt is on the pulley of the blade adapter and the transmission pulley I recommend having a helper engage the drive while you watch the transmission. The transmission should move when the drive is engaged. If it does not move, the cable is the problem. If it does rotate, I recommend replacing the belt. If you need to order any parts for the mower you can do so form the following link. Replacement parts for Craftsman lawn mower model 917374351.    I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance. Mark.
